These players helped inspire the creation of this bill.


Zachary Arend

Zachary was 18 years old. From the time he was little, he had a passion for baseball. Zachary loved the outdoors too. He was quiet,and had a smile and personality that were contagious.

At 6'3" and 190 lbs. he was slated to be a starting pitcher for the Bluffton Beavers.


David Betts

David Joseph Betts was 20 years old and grew up in Bryan Ohio where he loved to play and compete in all sports especially Baseball. He also loved music and making people happy.

He died doing what he loved, surrounded by his teammates whom he enjoyed, and happy in the knowledge he had won a starting position at second base for the Bluffton University Beavers.


Scott Harmon

Scott was a scholar athlete focusing primarily on football and baseball in which he earned top District and NW Ohio honors in both sports, member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and also was a tutor.

Scott's ability to see things from every possible perspective, along with his strong work ethic, honesty, patient selfless personality, warm gentle smile helped shape his leadership by example. Scott never wanted more than he had and in turn, he gave ALL he had. He was a fierce competitor on the field and a gentleman off the field.

Scott was majoring in math education and would have liked to be remembered as a teacher, coach and loyal friend.


Cody Holp

Cody E. Holp was 19 years old. He grew up in Verona and went to school Lewisburg, Ohio. Cody had a passion for life and his family. He loved to play sports, especially baseball, soccer, & street hockey. His dream though was to become a professional baseball player someday. He was a very outgoing and a friendly person, who didn't know a stranger.

Cody like the others died doing what he loved playing ball. He was so excited to have a starting spot in the pitching rotation as a freshman playing on the Bluffton University Team.


Tyler Williams

Tyler LaMar Williams, a young man with a billion-dollar smile, lived a life filled with activity, creativity, family and friends. He grew up in Lima, Ohio, where he excelled in many pursuits including music, sports and business. In high school, he played four sports, marched in the band and was a state award winner for a marketing project. At Bluffton, he majored in business, was an outfielder on the varsity baseball team and served as the business manager for the university newspaper. He was an avid drum player who created his own No-Gimmix record label. He had many passions and dreamed of being a successful entrepreneur and culinary chef. Tyler is remembered for his self-confidence and radiant love of life and friends.
